October 2, 2007 - Protect Your Identity at West Bank Shred-It Day

West Des Moines, IA - Saturday, November 3 is West Bank’s “Shred-It Day.” Mid America Recycling’s mobile shredding truck “The Paper Predator™” will be in the West Bank main branch parking lot at 1601 22nd Street from 8 a.m. to noon. Community residents and small businesses are invited to bring up to 100 lbs of their identity-sensitive documents for free on-the-spot document shredding. The 10,000 lb. capacity truck is certified by the National Association of Information Destruction.
“It’s vital for our customers and the public to know about the importance of properly disposing of personal documents in preventing identity theft,” said Brad Winterbottom, West Bank president.”We are committed to offering the proper resources to help protect you from the devastation of becoming a victim of this crime.”
Approximately 9 million Americans are victims of identity theft every year, according to the Federal Trade Commission. Identity theft occurs when personal information, such as a social security number, driver license number or credit card information, is stolen and used to commit fraud. One of the best ways to protect your identity is to properly destroy documentation that may contain personal data, such as old bills, credit card applications and tax forms.
