CDARS

Several changes to the amount of Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation ("FDIC") insurance have occurred in the past month. As of October 14th, 2008, all deposits in non-interest bearing transaction accounts are fully insured by the FDIC regardless of the account balance through December 31, 2009.

If your interest bearing or non-transaction account balance exceeds $250,000 we can provide you with FDIC insurance through the Certificate of Deposit Account Registry Service® ("CDARS"). Using our membership in the CDARS network, up to $50 million of your non-transaction deposits can be FDIC insured1.

CDARS provides you with:

  • One Bank: Obtain FDIC coverage for up to $50 million in deposits without the inconvenience of spreading your CD investments across several different banks.
  • One Rate: You will retain your West Bank rate for each CD maturity and enjoy the option of reinvesting them through a simple process.
  • One Statement: Receive one easy-to-read statement summarizing your CD holdings. No more consolidating statements from multiple banks in order to have FDIC insurance on your CD investments.

How does it work?

Certificates of deposit with face values of less than $100,000 each are issued by other member banks in the CDARS network2. With help from a sophisticated matching system, West Bank exchanges certificates of deposit with other banks that are members of the network. As a result, you can access FDIC insurance coverage on deposits in excess of $100,000 and receive consolidated interest payments and statements from West Bank.

You no longer need to maintain relationships with several different banks, or purchase brokered CDs through a brokerage firm, to retain FDIC insurance coverage on your CDs with face values of more than $100,000. The CDARS network allows you to work exclusively with West Bank while benefiting from the security of FDIC insurance coverage on your deposits of $100,000-$50 million.
